As a Business Process Architect, Rebecca Mudler facilitates process improvements within the company to ensure every customer, internal and external, gets a high-quality product on time. Her work has helped Sentry Equipment make improvements that have driven business growth and given Rebecca career opportunities while achieving work-life balance.

For Rebecca, working at Sentry Equipment is all about opportunity and growth. In the nearly 13 years she’s worked at our headquarters, she’s been able to take on a variety of roles, responsibilities, and challenges that have allowed her to expand her skill set.

"I love the opportunity I’ve been afforded to explore multiple areas of the business, which has led to personal growth, a more holistic business perspective and a passion for lifelong learning,” she says.

Before she joined Sentry in 2007, Rebecca worked at a small shop as a temporary employee. When that position ended, the vice president recommended her to Sherri McDermott, Sentry’s Director of Human Resources. Since then, Rebecca has held a variety of positions, including Customer Service Representative, Buyer, Production Planner and Product Support Supervisor. Most recently, she holds the position of Business Process Architect.

Just as her work life has changed over the years, so has her family life. She is now married and a mother to 3-year-old and 5-month-old boys, but her career with Sentry Equipment hasn’t missed a beat through her personal transformations.

She credits pride in employee ownership, seeking out change, and strong mentors pushing her outside of her comfort zone as contributing factors that facilitate her career growth.

Rebecca is continuously impressed with how the company communicates with employee-owners and the impact it makes. “We are completely transparent here. From quarterly meetings advising us of overall business performance to shared financial results, I get to see the whole picture of the business,” she says. “It shows how much the ESOP [Employee Stock Ownership Plan] truly ingrains a sense of ownership in all of us.”

What would be her dream job? “My husband and I would love to buy a large piece of land and start an animal rescue . It would be a place where people could come to destress by spending time with a variety of animals. I love bringing joy into people’s lives.”

Three things she’d take on a deserted island: “Well, if I can select a bug-less island, then I would take my boys, a utility or swiss army knife, and a really comfortable blanket.”

Did she know how to pronounce Oconomowoc before she started at Sentry? “I grew up north of Milwaukee in Fox Point, WI, and lived in Naperville, IL for a while; yet, I didn’t know how to pronounce Oconomowoc. I just remember thinking it was a lot of Os!”

driving continuous improvement

In her role as a Business Process Architect, her biggest challenge is managing the volume of change happening within the company and prioritizing those evolving needs to meet internal initiatives. However, the Continuous Improvement (CI) team helps her turn these challenges into successes. Each day “ebbs and flows,” depending on the project, but usually involves monitoring the CI process, setting up and conducting meetings, answering help desk tickets and handling software education.

This job always keeps me on my toes. I enjoy doing something different every day,” she says.

Rebecca’s most proud of the processes she’s been involved in and the improvements she helped usher through the company, as well as the internal teams she’s developed to help drive growth.

Over the years, she’s seen strong development in both the commercial and operations teams lead to significant growth of the business, which has allowed for more automation, improved technology and diversification which she believes benefits both employee-owners and customers.

She attributes the variety of advancements and change within the organization to her success. But her role as an employee-owner drives her to care deeply about the success of the company. “I really enjoy helping other people do their jobs more efficiently so we can better serve our customers” she says.

the future is bright

Rebecca cannot imagine leaving Sentry Equipment any time soon. In fact, within the next 10 to 15 years, she’d like to join the management team. But for now, her focus is on helping the company succeed and helping others find their true potential too.

“Never be afraid to challenge the status quo,” she says. “Sentry Equipment always has new opportunities available if you seek them out and are willing to go out of your comfort zone. We’re willing to shake things up and try new things internally and externally to grow as a company.”
